Why you need to book a photoshoot at a christmas market this hockey season

A little bit of inspo hit me, and I thought, Why not have a family photoshoot at a Christmas market in Austria while we were living in Vienna for the 21/22 hockey season? And oh boy, those snaps became some of my all-time favorites! That particular season, was our third hockey season living in Austria, and also the country my son was born in. This family photoshoot became a very special memory and reminder of our time there!

Listen, I know family photos can be costly and sometimes I find excuses to put them off but considering we live away from home for more than half the year, I think it’s worth the time and money to document some of the memories professionally. I am definitely someone who does family photoshoots mainly back home in the off-season but here’s why I think you should find a photographer to take family photos at a Christmas market this year.

We really don’t have Christmas markets back home. It’s not a thing. When you and your kids are older, you will look back at those memories (the good and the bad) and remember the joy that these markets brought you at a very special time in your life. Not to mention, the markets are absolutely breathtaking and there is such a magical feeling to them!

You will get SO many good candid photos of your family, naturally. I always cringe when photographers tell us to pretend to go in for a kiss or pretend to laugh (lol) but exploring the markets with your family, this will be captured authentically!

We loved these photos so much that I of course need to recreate this with our almost two year old daughter! I found someone here in the UK to take our family photos at a Christmas Market in London and I cannot wait for her to document our family! Below are some photos if you want some inspiration for your own family photos/tips on how to find a photographer in your area!

How to find a photographer in your country

I have always found photographers through Instagram! You can type in UK (or whatever country you are currently living in) and photographer as a hashtag (#ukphotographer) and find a photographer that has the style you like and get some quotes that meet your budget. I have found affordable people doing this. There is also a website called Flytographer that some hockey families have used. You can also find a photographer who meets your style there and you can use my link to get $25 off!
